Every EPFO member is provided with an online EPF passbook that reveals the total balance amount in the employee’s PF account as well as the monthly amount contributed by both parties.

Checking the EPF Balance using UMANG App

If you are an EPFO member, you can also check the EPF balance using the UMANG app. It is a centralised app through which the Government of India provides all its services under a single roof. Below are the steps you can use to check your EPF balance using the UMANG app:

Step1: Go to the app store or play store and download the UMANG app. After downloading the app, please open it and choose the EPF option.

Step 2: Select the option “Employee Centric Services”

Step 3: After that, select the option “View Passbook” to check your EPF balance.

Step 4: Enter the UAN number and select the option “Get OTP”. Enter the OTP sent to your registered number and then choose the “Login” option.

Step 5: After the member IDs are displayed, choose the relevant one.

Step 6: After this, your EPF passbook with the balance will show on the screen.

Check PF Balance by Using the SMS Service

If you are an EPFO member, you can easily send an SMS to the number 7738299899 to check your balance and the latest amount contributed. The format of the SMS must be ‘EPFOHO UAN ENG’. The SMS facility is available in many different languages, including English, Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Tamil.

EPF Balance Check on EPFO Portal with a UAN Number

Step 1: Use the internet to go to the EPFO portal.

Step 2: On the menu bar, select “Our Services” and then choose “For Employees”. This will make a new page open on the screen.

Step 3: After going to the “Services” menu, choose “Member Passbook”. It will open a new login page on the screen.

Step 4: When the login page opens, enter your “UAN”, “Password”, and Captcha code to verify and then hit Login. The UAN number is sometimes referred to as the PF balance check number. 

Step 5: A new page displaying the Member IDs of all the accounts linked to your UAN Login number will open after logging in. Therefore, along with your current EPF account, any other EPF accounts with previous employers linked with your UAN Login number will also be revealed. Please note that it is not possible to check your EPF balance without a UAN Login number.

Step 6: Out of the Member IDs displayed, choose the one on which you want to do an EPF check. After clicking on it, the relevant EPF passbook will be displayed on the screen, which you will get an option to download.
